After a long wait of 18-months, Express Entry draws for all-programs resumed. The most awaited draws finally resumed on July 6, 2022. Since Dec 2020, visa seekers have waited for an update on their application, and thousands of candidates received invitations through all-program Express Entry draws.

 

Backlogs reduced by half a Million

 

Application backlogs have always been a part of Canadian immigration. But post pandemic, application backlogs increased.  

 

Canada has been prioritizing application backlogs along with accepting new applications. The backlog of applications put the hope of visa seekers on hold. But Canada is successfully clearing the backlogs while increasing invitations. So far, half a million application backlogs are clear, and applicants have received nominations and confirmation on their applications.

 

10 Million Job vacancies

According to Ministerial data, 23 draws have been announced so far

and  46,538 PNP candidates have received ITAs in the first quarter of the year. 35,750 ITAs have been issued to all-program Express Entry candidates so far.

 

  • On July 6, Canada released the first draw since its pause in December 2020.
  • Total of 1500 candidates received invitations with the CRS cut of 557. (The highest cut-off since Express Entry draws resumed.)
  • Total Express Entry draw in 2022 =10

CRS cut off dropped to 400s 

 

With a drop in the CRS cut-off, the issuance of ITAs increased. The most recent draw had a 491 cut-off score.

 

Initially, the CRS cut-off dropped by 6-8 points which later decreased to 4-2 points. Now the CRS cut-off score reached 491 with a decrease of 66 points over the 10 draws.

 

The transition of NOC 2016 to NOC 2021

 

One of the biggest news of the year!

 

NOC 2021 came with major changes for the Express Entry candidates.

 

National Occupation Classification 2016 was based on skill types where occupations were classified as skill types with a unique 4-digit code. 

 

With the transition to NOC 2021, the TEER system (Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities) was introduced. 

 

  • Occupations now have a 5-digit identification code.

  • 17 new occupations are eligible for NOC 2021.

  • There is a change in the code for existing occupations, and now they will be applicable with a 5-digit code on applications.

 

Canada C-19 bill

 

In June, the Canada C-19 Express Entry bill was introduced. According to the Bill, Immigration Minister has the authority to invite candidates based on the economic needs of Canada.

 

 “Where [the Express Entry system] could be improved is at present if there are particular challenges that your economy is facing, it might be facing in the long term. We don’t have the ability to tailor the invitations to apply to the Express Entry system to meet those in-demand skills or qualifications.” ~ Sean Fraser

 

Canada Immigration Target - 2022

 

The highest number of applications were processed under Temporary Residence Visa in Canada in 2022, with an immigration target of 431,000 immigrants. Nearly 670,000 Study Permits have been issued so far this year. And 251,000 residents became new Citizens between April to November.

 

Standard processing time for visa applications

In recent times, the processing time for visa applications has been reduced. IRCC has planned to hire more than 1000 staff members to speed up the processing by the end of this year. 

 

Working hours for students extended

Now, students can work more than 20-hours during studies. Canada has lifted the part-time working hours for students. 

 

AIP has become a Permanent Program

 

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program upgraded to a permanent program, now called the Atlantic Immigration Program.

 

Canada increased wages for the Workers

 

Amidst the high demand for workers and vacant positions, Canada increased wages. A 7.5% of increment declared in the first quarter of the year i.e. $24.20 per hour as the average hourly wage.
