Looking for a Post-graduation work permit?

What are your plans after studying in Canada?

Some of the students apply for PGWP after completing their studies in Canada. Do you know what that term is?

Whether you are familiar with the term or not? We will tell you full details about that. Also, what is the better option that maximum students choose?

Let’s start.

What is PGWP?

A Post-graduation work permit is an Open work permit that allows you to study for any employer in Canada.

International students in Canada who want to continue living in the country and work choose the path of a Post-graduation work permit. A PGWP comes with a certain validity which is generally the same as the study program.

A PGWP can be valid for a minimum of 8 months to a maximum of up to three years. For example, if your study course is for more than eight months or less than two years, your PGWP validity will exactly be the same as your study course.

In another scenario, if your study course is for two years or longer, then your PGWP will be valid for three years.

Who is eligible for PGWP?

1. Must be 18 years or above
2. Must have completed a full-time degree/diploma/certificate from Canada.
3. At least 50% of the study must have been completed offline or in person.
4. Must have studied in a Designated Learning Institution(DLI) in Canada.

Designated Learning institutions are those schools/universities in Canada that provide admissions to foreign students. These institutions are authorized by provincial or territorial governments that allow international students to complete their education.

How soon can you apply?

1.) After receiving your final marks from the college, you can apply for PGWP within 180 days.
2.) If your study permit has expired, apply within 90 days.

Processing time

A PGWP can take around 80 to 180 days to process the application. Students who apply before the expiration of their study permit can begin working while their application is under process.

Cost for PGWP

The cost for PGWP is the combined cost of a post-graduation work permit and open work permit.

PGWP fee - CAD$255

How many times can you apply for PGWP?
You can apply only once for PGWP. That is why most of the students choose a longer duration of study program that comes with a longer validity of PGWP.

Can you apply for PR after PGWP?

Yes, you can apply for PR after PGWP. Maximum applicants who study in Canada apply for PR directly because getting PR is easier with Canadian experience & education and has more benefits than a Post-graduation Work Permit.

To apply for PR, you have multiple pathways. The most preferred are Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs.

Getting an education in Canada brings you multiple career opportunities. You can enrol yourself and work part-time and gain valuable experience while earning enough to manage your expenses in Canada.

After that, if you wish to continue working in Canada, you can apply for PGWP to legally work and stay after the expiry of your study permit.

Above all, become a permanent resident of Canada.

The best thing about studying in Canada is your education and work experience become more valuable globally. If you are also planning to settle in Canada, study pathways are the easiest way.
