IELTS

There are two categories in IELTS; Academic, and General training.
If your purpose is to study in English-speaking countries(Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK) then you need to prove your English language skills. To assess your language proficiency, an IELTS test is mandatory.
- If your purpose is to migrate for work or employment or study even, a general training test assesses your English language proficiency.

PTE
PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is recognized by 3000 universities and colleges worldwide. It is considered in Australia(PR), New Zealand, and the UK.
PTE Academic is for applicants who want to study abroad where English is a compulsory language. The PTE test will tell you if your language skills are good enough to join their courses.
Some of the universities that are accepting PTE Academic are Mcmaster University, Oxford University, Harvard Business School, Yale, Dalhousie University, Georgian College, Centennial University, Mount Royal University, London School of Business and Finance, and Toronto.
If you want to study in Canada, then taking the PTE test will also be considered to prove your English language skills. After taking a test, you can expect the results within 48 hours of duration.
PTE fees vary with countries. Talking about PTE Australia and Canada, it costs 20,720 INR and 17,700 INR approx
Which test is easier, IELTS or PTE and which one to choose?
(1). IELTS gives you both options, a paper-based test and an online test. Whereas PTE is completely an online test.
(2). The time duration in IELTS is approx 3 hours whereas the PTE test is a little shorter of around 2 hours.
(3). IELTS results take around 14 days depending on the model of the exam( paper-based or Online) whereas PTE test results take around 48 hours.
(4). PTE results are system based whereas the IELTS test checking system is manual for both modes.
(5). IELTS General Training is one for all: PR, study, or work-related purposes while PTE Academic and General serve different purposes in different countries.
(6). For the speaking test, IELTS assigns a trained IELTS examiner to test the speaking skills of an applicant while PTE follows system based testing for speaking as well.
Myths about English language test
(1). A common myth generally students have is that the computerised test is easier than the paper-based test. Absolutely false. The difficulty level of any exam cannot be decided by the mode of writing it.
(2). Opting for an exam just because of its duration. It is not a wise decision to choose a test based on the length of an exam.
System-based or paper-based hold their own value. The decision of taking a test should depend on your purpose of going to the country and the preferred choice of countries globally.
