NOC to TEER: How Teer Code System Affects Express Entry Applicants

National Occupational Classification is the categorization of the jobs demanded in Canada.

Canada has been facing a shortage of young talent in the country resulting in hiring people from different countries of the world. Lakhs of immigrants apply for visas in Canada but do not get approval. One of the reasons is the unmatching NOC code chosen by an applicant.

Jobs are categorized differently based on occupations and skill types. These skill types represent your industry, and skill level represents your educational qualifications for the job profile. Therefore, the NOC code defines your occupation.

Change in NOC

The Canadian government revises the NOC every five years. The major reason for modification in the NOC is to add more relevant occupations and eliminate irrelevant ones.
The NOC code or teer Code you may be following or finding applicable to your job profile may not be the same anymore. A new NOC has been introduced and is soon to be implemented.
From 16th November 2022 NOC codes for all the occupations will be changed.

Clarifying the NOC System in Canada

Canada's National Occupational Classification (NOC) system categorizes occupations based on their skill level and training requirements. It plays a crucial role in various government programs, including Express Entry for immigration purposes.

TEER Framework

The TEER (Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities) framework helps classify occupations within the NOC system based on their skill level requirements, not as a separate code associated with each NOC version.

Impact on Express Entry Applicants

Applicants in the Express Entry pool who submitted their profiles before November 16, 2022, have until November 15, 2023, to update their profiles with the corresponding NOC 2021 code. After that date, only NOC 2021 codes will be accepted for Express Entry applications.

FAQ's

1. What's the difference between NOC and TEER?

NOC categorized jobs based on type and skill level (A-D). TEER focuses on skill level (0-3) within those jobs. Think of NOC as the big picture (job type) and TEER as the zoom-in (skill level). Both are important for Express Entry, but TEER determines your eligibility now.

2. Update my NOC code if I applied before November 16, 2023?

You need to update your profile with the corresponding NOC 2021 code by November 15, 2023. Only NOC 2021 codes are accepted after that date, so don't miss the deadline

3. How to find my NOC 2021 code?

Head to the official NOC website (https://noc.esdc.gc.ca/) or use their handy interactive tool. Don't worry, it's user-friendly! They'll explain TEER levels and how they might differ from the old system.

4. Does TEER open new Express Entry doors for my job?

TEER added 16 new eligible occupations. Check the list in the blog to see if your job description and qualifications match. Maybe your path to Canada just got easier

5. How does TEER affect my Express Entry score?

While TEER doesn't directly impact points, it can play a role. More eligible occupations might mean more competition. However, your TEER category could reflect higher job demand, potentially boosting your score indirectly.
