How to apply for PR if you’re not eligible for Express Entry?

Not anyone or everyone can become a permanent resident of Canada. That is why the eligibility factors are there. But if you don’t score 67, you can work on improving them.

Canada’s 67 point system of eligibility

The 67-point system is an eligibility system for Express Entry.

Express Entry is an electronic system for managing immigration applications in Canada. Under Express Entry, there are three programs, Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Trade Worker, and Canadian Experience Class.

One must have a minimum 67 points to qualify for Express Entry. Points are awarded based on a many factors, including age, education, language, work experience, adaptability, and arranged employment.

1. Language Skills - 28 points
2. Education - 25 points
3. Work Experience - 15 points
4. Age - 12 points
5. Arranged Employment - 10 points
6. Adaptability - 10 points

The above factors are the determiners of your eligibility. And the overall score is 100, out of which one needs 67 points to be eligible.

If you don’t score the minimum points, you will not qualify for the Express Entry.

Many applicants give up just after knowing they scored less than 67 points. But Canada doesn’t let you go like this. It gives you chances to improve your score. Factors that majorly affect your overall points can help you increase your points.

How to improve Express Entry points?

Express Entry is the preferred pathway for migrants to apply for permanent residency in Canada. So it becomes mandatory for them to gain a minimum passing score of 67 in Express Entry.

Some factors you cannot change like age. Therefore, it is always beneficial to get a profile evaluation before moving ahead with any process. An evaluation of your profile gives you clarity about your eligibility for immigration programs and also if proceeding further will be a good decision.

So, let’s understand how you can improve your points.

1. Language

Nobody is born with any language, so there is always room for learning and improvement. That’s why when you apply early, you have time you can practice and reappear for the language test.

You must practice in a way that will increase your points in the next test. For this, you can take coaching or practice with someone already proficient in the language.

2. Education

Earn a degree or diploma. Education alone covers 25 points out of 100. So adding an educational document will benefit you in two ways- migration and job. So, if you apply at an early age when you have time to earn an additional degree or diploma, then it is beneficial.

3. Second official language

Canada has two official languages, English and French. The ability to speak, write, listen, and read in a second language, can get you additional 4 points.

If you get even CLB 5, you can gain 4 points for a second language. So, when you have decided to improve your score, don’t take your step back from any possibility of improvement. Plan your years and follow that.

4. Work Experience

Work experience is an essential factor for Express Entry eligibility points. So, gain more experience. Every passing day is an experience. Turn it into a professional and continuous one. After a year or two, you will be able to gain points through it.

Work experience, education, new language may take some time, but these factors are the main contributor to improving your overall score. But there is another major factor i.e.., age. When you are below 30, you can make considerable improvements to maximize your eligibility points.

Why this age is because Canada is very specific about age. And after a certain age, points start declining as the age no. increases.
